Knowledge is Power: Understanding and Managing BRCA-Related Cancer Risk
In Partnership with the Basser Center for BRCA at the University of Pennsylvania, join us for a panel discussion with Basser Center Executive Director, Dr. Susan Domchek, local physicians Dr. Paul Hyde and Dr. David Smotrich, Director of the Family Cancer Genetics program at Moores UCSD Cancer Center, Dr. Lisa Madlensky, as well as a community member who has been impacted by these issues. Moderated by journalist and bioethicist, Jill Werman Harris, attendees will learn about BRCA mutations and related cancers and what can be done to mitigate risk for families. Areas of discussion will include genetic counseling and testing, misconceptions about hereditary cancers and how to navigate through the challenging decision-making and medical management options faced by mutation carriers.
Meet and Greet panelists and local support groups. Light refreshments will be served.
