Timken Museum of Art Free Guest Lecture: Bhavna Mehta
"Paper Stories" Speaker: Bhavna Mehta, Timken Artist in Residence Join us for a special guest lecture with our summer exhibition artist, Bhavna Mehta. The Timken will become a theater for its first Artist in Residence. During this month-long project, she will be creating Leela-Portrait of a Woman in a Green Dress, a 3-dimensional artwork on display at the Timken all summer, echoing the museum’s Portrait of a Lady in a Green Dress by Bartolomeo Veneto. The narrative arc of Leela spans wide - across oil and paper, East and West, old and contemporary. Bhavna Mehta will talk about some of the ideas that went into the thinking and making of Leela. Bhavna Mehta works with paper – cutting and embroidering it to tell stories that combine figurative imagery with botanical motifs, text and shadows. Using paper as skin and thread to connect and mend, using cutting and sewing to talk about exposing and hiding, she makes work about relating and remembering.
